The Chinese Exclusion Act, was an act the United States passed in 1882 that stopped the emigration of Chinese to America for 10 years. This act was the first law to prohibit the migration of any immigrant to America. During this ban, it would be renewed twice following the first ten year period. The second renewal banned Chinese immigrants from coming to America forever. This was later lifted during World War II due to the improvement of Chinese and American relations.
